End of Studies Project

The intervention is proposed in a commercial premises located in the historic center of Vigo, in the cultural and economic center of the city. The building in which the premises is located stands out for its classification as of very high urban interest, and medium historical and architectural interest. The proposal will be carried out on the ground floor and its current commercial use will be maintained, proposing a chocolate shop with national and international products inside.

The conceptual idea of the project is a "box of chocolates" in which we find different varieties of the same product both in terms of shape, color and taste, but all of them are arranged in the same container in which each can have its predefined place in similarity with its shape or where its location is limited by the limits of the packaging.

It will be this "box of chocolates" concept that organizes this proposal. The place is formally a cube, which seeks to break the symmetry thanks to two perpendicular lines that delimit and structure the space, ordering the distribution of the functional program.

Starting from these two perpendicular lines, the distribution of the exhibition space is structured, the dobro and tasting area, as well as the private area for the use of the workers where the toilet is located.

The design focuses on the greatest respect for the existing architecture, ashlar stone walls, large windows and a total height of the space of 4.91 meters; and the truth of the materials, celebrating their imperfections, being aware of this in their choice. The color palette used favors neutral tones in relation to the tones found in the existing ashlar stone, the presence of beech and walnut wood that provide warmth in contrast to the cold "earth" colored cement floor. The selection and use of materials define the areas that make up the set, being differentiating or unifying elements of it.

The exhibition area is basically made up of three mobile modules conceptually similar to chocolates, inside which products can be stored. These elements will give greater dynamism to the space, breaking its static and symmetrical character. Allowing the creation of different distributions so that these can constitute a single piece or play with their position in space, giving rise to the desired circulations.

The intention is to create a dynamic space, interesting in the eyes of the customer, where the focus is shared between the product to be sold and the design of the premises, giving priority to the functionality of the space. A design with simple lines is sought where the truth of each material as well as its imperfections bring originality and character to the whole.
