PALIC

Final Project

PALIKE is a side table, made up of a multitude of “sticks”. A table to put down the book we are reading, drinks or a plate to eat. We sit around it to chat about something important, or simply to hang out, enjoying each other’s company.

Its particularity is that the tabletop is made up of a KUMIKO. This Japanese technique consists of fitting slats into the cells of a frame built in half-timbering, creating geometric figures with the repetition of a pattern.

In this case it is made up of rectangles and the pieces, placed diagonally, form rhombuses. A different wood is used in the central line of these to give it greater dynamism.

Two types of wood were used, maple and walnut from the country, light and dark woods, respectively.

The straight lines and modular repetition created an austere and clean design, which focused attention on the kumiko.

It incorporates glass at the top to make it more functional.

PALIKE is a side table that seeks balance, slenderness and serenity.

Materials: Pradairo and Walnut woods from the country.

Techniques: kumiko, assemblies, fillets.
