"Gli occhi prima di mia madre" is the reinterpretation of a story. The story of a family and also of a house that was transformed to create a new and wider space to live in. A story of everyday life and the eyes of a child who is now a man
Sort and classify the family file. A search among a flood of color albums. Ever since I was little I thought the world was limited to my neighborhood. The trees in the neighborhood helped me find the limits of that little world. I remembered this when I started selecting photographs by locations. Image after image I found memories, thoughts and paths I thought I had forgotten.
The characters in this story are my family. A disheveled, reluctant and disordered family that could hide behind the history of any of us. Photographic compositions attempt to create a dialogue between those who form it, a forced and long-desired dialogue. And through these new images emerged another family album made of upheavals and reconquests, of turmoil and loss.
A large number of photographs allowed me to create different compositions, but suddenly I realized that this seemingly endless archive, however, had an end. My mother's present embraces my present with the ideas and intentions of the person I am today. Finding the courage to take my hands off my ears, as I didn't do as a child, was the start of a beautiful dialogue. Find the strength to grasp a new present.
Photographs cannot be read with the eyes alone. I realized now with this project.
