Date: Friday, October 24 at 12:00 p.m.
Place: Auditorium of the EASD Antonio Faílde
EASD Antonio Failde is pleased to announce this lecture by the prestigious R2 Design studio. This is the second time they have visited the school, the first being within the framework of the first CREA Art and Design Conference in 2017.
R2 is the studio of designers and artists Lizá Défossez Ramalho (Troyes, France) and Artur Rebelo (Porto, Portugal). R2’s work goes beyond conventional boundaries, alternating between the two-dimensional projects typical of graphic design and architectural landscapes. The international recognition of R2’s innovative projects has contributed to redefining the boundaries of the design discipline. Driven by a strong commitment to excellence, they are passionately dedicated to creating high-quality projects, both conceptual and visual. R2 was co-founded in 1995 and works with cultural institutions and commercial clients in fields ranging from culture and lifestyle to industry. R2's multidisciplinary approach allows them to respond effectively to a wide range of projects, from the signage of reservoirs on the Douro River (together with the studio of the prestigious architect Souto de Moura) to many brand images that include the use of typography on the roof of buildings (Casa do Conto, Porto) or the complex graphic identity of a museum with more than 14 locations (Museu do Porto). Their most recent projects include the corporate image for Évora 2027, European Capital of Culture in 2027, as well as for Vhils Studio.
Ramalho and Rebelo have received numerous international awards and recognitions, such as the Grand Prix of the Brno Biennial (Czech Republic), several Premier awards granted by the International Society of Typographic Designers (United Kingdom) and the Society for Environmental Graphic Design (United States), and the Gold Prize at the Toyama International Poster Triennial (Japan). Some of their original pieces are also in collections of international museums such as the Museum für Gestaltung (Zurich, Switzerland), the Museum of Modern Art (Toyama, Japan) and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Paris, France). They are also catalogued in the book History of Graphic Design published by Taschen in 2018.
Artur Rebelo has a doctorate from the University of Coimbra (Portugal), where he currently teaches Design and Multimedia classes, while Lizá Ramalho has a doctorate in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona, a scholarship holder from the Foundation for Science and Technology (Portugal). Both have been members of AGI, American Graphics Institute, since 2007 and co-organizers of the AGI/Open Porto Congress in 2010.
