On Friday, February 21st at 12:00 in the Assembly Hall, we will welcome the illustrator and comic book author Bea Lema (A Coruña, 1985) to the school with the talk Sewing a Story.
In it he will talk about his graphic novel O corpo de Cristo, the work with which he won the 2024 National Comic Book Award. This activity is part of the program Sketchers of Historias, Literary Encounters in Art Schools promoted by the Directorate General of Books, Comics and Reading, Ministry of Culture of Spain.
Bea Lema's work is generally autobiographical and deals with themes related to madness, trauma, family relationships, religion and popular rites. The Body of Christ addresses the issue of mental health from a girl's perspective. On a graphic level, she explores drawing and embroidery as a support for her illustrations and comics.
In addition to the National Comic Award, O Corpo de Cristo received many other mentions such as the Audience Award at the Angouleme Festival in 2024.
He is currently working on adapting this book into an animated short film.
