Date: April 29/ May 26.

Place: Ourense Public Library.

On April 29, the exhibition Sacando viruta opens. Craftsmanship and design carried out by the Artistic Cabinetmaking department of the EASD (School of Art and Design) Antonio Faílde de Ourense. The exhibition was born with the intention of showing the works carried out five years after the start of the Higher Studies in the specialty, with the intention of making them visible and taking stock of what has been done.

The title of the exhibition has the metaphorical meaning of extracting the residual material from the wood and building the form, both in the sense of the furniture and objects created and in the sense of being formed, of working as a cabinet maker.

The pieces shown are about thirty, between furniture and small objects, and are characterized by uniting project and process in a learning path between the handling of the material and its realization.

The objects placed in display cases are small pieces made in carving that show the textures of the tool on the material that is to be praised. It is about telling stories that build meanings evoked with the form and the titles, in order to transcend the mere functional use of them and provide us with an added aesthetic value.

The furniture has clean and timeless lines where joinery techniques such as tiling, turning, assemblies and different bending systems have been applied, the shapes being very simple but the artisanal processes very complex where craftsmanship and design come together to create unique pieces.

It advocates a design culture that updates forms in contemporary furniture, always taking into account respect for tradition, processes and materials, seeking to learn the trade, the renewal of plastic language and an option for sustainable growth.

We will also have the talk-conference Making Brand. Artesanía de Galicia on April 29 by Elena Fabeiro, manager of the Artesanía de Galicia Foundation. It will be held with limited capacity and priority for the students of Artistic Cabinetry.

Participating students and alumni: Jairo Ramos, Alberto Salgado, Jesús Pacheco, Maikel Lorenzo, Carmen Muñiz, Daniel Vázquez, Iría Fernández, José Luís Fernández, Marcos Pérez, Fernando Ferradás, Manuel González, Tomás García, Ester Núñez, José Antonio Alonso, Abel Fernández, Carlos Santomé, Esther Pérez, Alex Fernández, Antonio López, Diego González, Fernando García, Jaime Vázquez, Luís Manuel and Marcos Ferro.
