Fernando Vicente (Madrid, 1963)
Self-taught, his first works appeared in the first half of the 1980s, at the height of the Madrid movement, in the magazines Madriz and La Luna de Madrid, in which he would publish both illustrations and comic strips. After this first period he spent a decade in the advertising sector as artistic director in several agencies.
Returning to the world of illustration, since 1999 he has regularly published in the newspaper El País, with his collaborations in the cultural supplement Babelia being of particular relevance, which led him to win numerous awards. He also collaborated with magazines such as Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Rock de Lux, Lápiz, Playboy or Interviu.
In addition to his work in press, caricature and fashion illustration, he made album and book covers, and illustrated more than twenty books aimed at both children and young people.
Likewise, he develops his pictorial work centered on the presence of the human figure in combination with collector's graphic material from various sources, and inspired by fashion photography of the 50s, or the great themes of classical painting.
His work is collected in various volumes such as Los pin-ups de Fernando Vicente (Dibbuks, 2004), Illustrated Literature (Sins Entido, 2002), Portraits (Blur, 2009), Portadas (Brandstudio Press 2010), Universes (Ayuntamiento de Palma , 2011), ArtbooK (Ominiky, 2014) or Fernando Vicente (Roads Publishing, 2014). In 2022 Norma Editorial published a compilation of his entire career entitled El Arte de Fernando Vicente.
