Date: Monday, March 17 at 12:00 p.m.

Place: Auditorium of the EASD Antonio Faílde.

For EASD Antonio Failde it is a pleasure and a privilege to welcome Andrew Howard, one of the most notable international figures in the theory and practice of graphic design and contemporary visual communication, namely, in his social involvement.

His articles have been published in Eye, the International Review of Graphic Design, and in the Canadian magazine Adbusters. His writings were also included in the anthology Looking Closer, Critical Writings on Graphic Design.

He was one of the 33 original signatories of the First Things First Manifesto 2000, published simultaneously in Adbusters, Emigré, AIGA Journal of Graphic Design, Eye, Blueprint, and Items.

In his professional facet, he has won several international design awards such as those awarded by the International Society of Typographic Designers, the American Art Directors Club, or the New York Type Directors Club, among others.

Established in Porto since 1993, he combines professional activity in his studio specializing in projects for cultural and educational institutions, and his teaching role at ESAD de Matosinhos (one of our Erasmus partner institutions), coordinating his Masters in Communication Design.

He is also involved in the faculty's activity as coordinator of the Personal Views project, a series of international seminars aimed at exploring the limits of design practice and contemporary visual communication, for which he has achieved, in successive editions, collaboration in lectures and workshops from an unprecedented group of world-class graphic design professionals, researchers and educators such as Hamish Muir, Paula Scher, Jonathan Barnbrook, Erik Spiekermann, Ellen Lupton, Neville Brody, Wim Crowell, Experimental Jet Set, Karel Martens, Steven Heller, Jan Van Toorn, Linda van Deursen and Armand Mevis, Katherine McCoy, Adrian Shaughnessy, etc…
